As the number of motor vehicles is shooting up in Lao P.D.R. in the midst of economic development, the number of traffic accidents and casualties are also on the rise. For the reduction of traffic accidents, we will analyze the causes of traffic accidents based on data collected in our “System Development” activity. Based on the analysis, we will implement road safety measures such as supporting revisions of laws and regulations on speeding or drink-driving, and holding road safety classes for drivers and the general public.
We prepare materials for training and campaign about the wearing of a helmet and seat-belt, prevention of drunk-driving and speeding. We carry out seminars for the public to raise awareness about road safety at high schools, universities and shopping malls. Rescue crews and medical professionals who know the best about post-accident conditions will lead the events.
Together with the police and government, we will examine causes of accidents about places where accidents frequently occur. Typical causes are shooting out of roadside facilities, intersections with poor visibility, speeding, etc. Then, we will examine realistic measures including identification of dangerous places, improvement of road structures, and placement of signs. We plan to support designing guidelines for road safety measures, reinforcement of punishment and legislative preparation through these meetings.
